“Swirl Removal” on a Mercedes E220 Masterpiece

My very first attempt at swirl removal using a machine. This small section was polished using the Bosch 270AE random orbital with Meguiar’s #83 Dual-Action Cleaner/Polish on a Meguiar’s Polishing Pad. About 3-4 very very slow passes were made and that did not even gave me 100% correction as you can see in the larger picture after the jump.
As shown in the pictures below, the paint was pretty hard for a random orbital machine to handle. I did not expect it and told the owner that I couldn’t perform full correction work as it would take me days to correct the paint with a random orbital and a foam pad with a medium cut polish.
I did get my first taste of removing swirls, the time involved and the very limited polishing action of a random orbital buffer.
