DIT: Honda Civic EG6 with Erik and Josh

by Kenneth Tang

VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO! A fun do-it-together involving velvet pads, blasting out foam and Opti-Guard.

This car is wearing a repainted black (originally red), the orange peel on the bonnet was bad, the driver’s side rear fender and rear bumper has been scuffed. Interior has not been cleaned since the car left the showroom 17 years ago.

I started by brushing the fabric with Meguiar’s All Purpose Cleaner (10:1) and extracting out with clean water. Erik scrubbed interior plastic and vinyl surfaces with Optimum Power Clean (3:1) while Josh scrubbed exterior trims with Osren Degreaser FX.

Wheels cleaned with Sonax Extreme Wheel Cleaner (Acid-free), tires and wheels with Osren Multi Clean(4:1).
Bodywork foamed and washed with Osren Bubble and Wax shampoo, clayed with Soft99 Clay for dark colours using Optimum No Rinse as lube (clay lube ratio).

We then taped up the trim while Erik did a test spot on the bonnet with Osren Perfect Forty compound and Osren Velvet Pad.

Erik finally decided on using the following process for the bonnet(Correct me if I’m wrong, Erik!):

Osren Perfect Forty/Osren Velvet Pad/Hitachi SP18VA rotary
Meguiar’s #105 Ultra-Cut Compound/Meguiar’s W4000 Wool Pad/Hitachi SP18VA rotary
Meguiar’s #205 Ultra-Finishing Polish/Meguiar’s Yellow Polishing Pad/Hitachi SP18VA rotary
Meguiar’s #205 Ultra-Finishing Polish/Meguiar’s Black Finishing Pad/Meguiar’s G220 V2 dual-action polisher

Erik worked on the bonnet while Josh and I worked on the sides of the car with the following:

Meguiar’s #105 Ultra-Cut Compound/White Wool Pads/Makita 9227C rotary
Meguiar’s #205 Ultra-Finishing Polish/Lake Country White or Optimum Red foam/Makita 9227C rotary
Meguiar’s #205 Ultra-Finishing Polish/Meguiar’s or Lake Country Black Finishing Pad/Meguiar’s G220 V2 DA or Dodo Juice Das6 DA

At this point, we were rushing for time so there’s not much pics from here on. We pressure rinsed the car to remove polishing dusts, foamed and washed with our ‘high sudsing experimental shampoo formula’ (basically mixing whatever we have, Osren Bubble and Wax, Sonax Gloss Shampoo, Optimum Car Wash, etc.).

We dried the car and protected the paint with their coating of choice, Optimum Opti-Guard. Check out the reflection on the bonnet!!

…and that’s the story of how the VTEC beast turned into a beauty… but it’s still a beast. Beauty-beast hybrid?

Asking questions are truly good thing if you are not understanding something entirely, but this piece of writing presents fastidious
